Three seald packs of Ready to cook Mussels

Quality and safety are always top of mind

Our aim is to produce the best quality Australian blue mussels for the world.

As one of Australia’s largest mussel producers, we pride ourselves on innovative farming practices, high standards of food safety and processing technology.

All our premium mussels are certified organic and preservative free.

And we hand grade the mussels… that means we pass our eyes over every mussel before we pack them. Only the best mussels make it from water to plate.

We test regularly, with a focus on water temperature, nutrients and mussel conditions. In fact, we insist on exceeding food and water quality standards.

Frozen mussels

Supply you can rely on

At Eyre Peninsula Seafoods, we produce around 1,000 tonnes of premium quality mussels every year. That’s nearly 40 million mussels that we distribute to suppliers across Australia and the world.

We have purposefully spread our mussel farms over 350 hectares of pristine waters of Boston Bay.

That’s an area four times the size of Sydney Harbour. This gives us the advantage of selecting only the best live mussels to harvest.

When compared to other meat produce, the growth cycle of a mussel is rapid, taking from 6-12 months to mature. This gives us the ability to quickly adapt to changing demands in the market and increase our supply when needed.

We produce premium mussels all year round. And whilst the shell size varies due to changes in seasonal weather conditions, our mussels retain the same quality and flavour. No matter the time of year.

We developed our innovative SeaSure packaging for the protection of the live mussels. By minimising the stress the mussel endures from water to plate, we deliver a premium eating mussel is consistently and continuously to you.

And with our proprietary brand offering, you can develop your own branded packaging for use in foodservice distribution or retail.

Eating mussels for the family meal became a habit that we all enjoyed

Busy? Aren’t we all! Since we came out of a lockdown it can feel like the days are moving faster and we have less time to do those things that are important to our health. Whilst the lockdowns were hard, we found we had more time and more reason to make time for our own wellbeing and that of our two children. Mussels for the family meal became the norm.

Black mussels and blue mussels are found on the menus of leading restaurants

Black mussels dominate the menus of the world’s leading restaurants. Native to the waters of Southern Africa, the Arctic Ocean, the North Pacific and North Atlantic Oceans the similarity of black mussels to blue mussels grown in the Southern Ocean of mainland Australia is beginning to gain a great deal of attention with many Australian chefs.

Eating mussels as part of your weekly routine is a very healthy choice

Europeans and New Zealanders have been feasting on mussels for centuries. Our New Zealand cousins lead the world in both consumption and export of mussels, having adopted traditional European culinary habits of eating mussels as a staple rather than a delicacy.
